Food in Perak: Tapah Resthouse - 1981 Restaurant

We often stopped at this resthouse, on the way back to KL from Alor Star (exit tapah using PLUS Highway). It brings back lots of nice memories to my husband, as this is the place my father in law used to bring the family to whenever they're around closeby area. The 1981 Restaurant provide a pleasant environment and nice ambient, so it's comforting after a tired journey. The food served is up to my expectation and price is affordable.

My husband ordered 'Nasi Goreng USA' or USA fried rice with fresh orange juice. The fried rice came with fried chicken, egg, fresh tomato and cucumber.

As for me, I ordered Chicken Chop and Teh Tarik. I know it's a strange combo, but hey, Im a Malaysian.. Teh Tarik is a MUST.
The Chicken Chop came with Fries, Coleslaw and some fresh salad.
The Teh Tarik is a bit strong and sweet, so I added warm water to my drink and it turned out great.

My kids loved the Chicken Fingers. As soon as they arrived, they ate them like they never had one before. As for Ammar, he did finish the mushroom soup, so it must taste nice as well.

Total spent: Fried rice, Chicken chop, 2 basket of chicken fingers, mushroom soup, 2 fresh orange juices and teh tarik --> less than RM 40

How to go ? The resthouse situated on a small hill.

Food In Selangor : Big Plate, Subang

We always think that the journey to find good food always far & far away from where we live. But sometimes we're not aware that there are a lot of wonderful food nearby & sometimes it is just a few minutes drive from our home.

I always endure or love western food.To be is more specific for 'lambchop'. I must say that I'm a 'lambchop' lover. Whenever i heard or being recommend a great place to try lambchop I'll always on to it.

In Subang near the junction of Monteraz Golf Club there's actually a small shop lot of marvelous western food place called BIG PLATE. Its always among my favourite place to have my lambchop whenever i want to. The name of the Restaurant actually fits its dish. A big plate served with minimum of 3-4 pieces of lamb cutlet. With black paper souce & vege side dish. I always will come back home with a very full stomach.

Don't also forget to try the mushroom soup served in a bread (i dint know how to tell actually). The soup is a must try dish. My wife ordered Grilled Salmon which has a good presentation. But overall the taste is not as good as it looks. I ordered kiddies dish which was chicken cocktail with fries.

Location & Name : Big Plate near the junction of Golf Club Monteraz Subang

Price : A dish ranges from RM 15~18 (total for two person + 2 kids will be more than RM50 less than RM70).

Great Thing : Lambchop among the best & soup as well

Setback : Other dish not as good as it looks.

Food In Labuan : Labuan Evening Snack ~ Chicken Wing

Labuan is a small island but full of surprises. The most difficult part was to have good lunch during the day. But in the evening or at night there’s a lot of place to visit. Last time I’ve talk about Surrender Point chicken wing. But actually there’s another place closer to the town at Jalan Rancha-rancha in Kg Sg Keling.

This place was introduced by one of the contractor in Labuan. Not bad & I can it is at par with the chicken wing that I’ve been to in Surrender Point. The chicken was sweet & tender. I think they marinate It with honey. Nicely done.

Location: Can see from the roadside.
Price: RM2.00 per piece.
Nice Thing : Fast service.
Setback: Only tin can drink available.

p/s: Always look forward to go to Labuan due to this..

Food In Alor Star: Pekan Rabu

Pekan Rabu is a MUST go venue for my family and I, particularly because of the Bihun Sup Utara served at one of the restaurant, ‘Restoran Bamboo’. Well, even though my husband claimed that I’m the only one in the family whose crazy over the bihun sup, the real fact is both of my sons like it too (yeah, they do!). I really like the bihun sup because it has everything that I want in a soup. It has generous amount of beef, delicious soup, sambal to make it a bit more spicy (which I like), fries shallots, Chinese celery and … caipo (I think people call it lobak asin). It makes the soup tastes PERFECT.

Nowadays, I like to incorporate the ‘caipo’ in my soup, but the ‘caipo’ that I use is a bit different. I found out that there’s two type of ‘caipo’. I like the sweet ‘caipo’. It’s a bit more expensive, but it taste nice. Here is one super easiest dish I like to prepare using the sweet ‘caipo’.

Sweet ‘caipo’ cut into small sizes
Fried ikan bilis (about the same amount as the ‘caipo’)
Onion, sliced
Red & Green fresh chillies, sliced

*Heat the oil in the wok, add the onion. Put in’ caipo ‘and cook for about 3-4 min. Add in the rest of the ingredients and served. Do not add salt or sugar.

There’s another special kuih served here, it’s very popular in Kedah, The Pulut Sambal. My husband really like it. It’s made of glutinous rice (cooked with coconut milk) with the ‘serunding ikan’ and wrapped with banana leaf. My sons love it as well. As for me, well… I like everything that can be eaten…

Direction ? Opposite CIMB Bank big building. Car park there as well.

Food In Kedah : Breakfast in Alor Setar 'Roti Canai'

It might not be fair to tell you this restaurant is have the best ‘roti canai’ in town, but I must admit it since I was young it is the best. The shop is situated in Jalan Sultanah or as local folks known as Jalan Day. The shop existed ages ago since I was young & still among the best restaurant in town famous for its ‘roti canai’ & ‘mee abu’.

Even my wife always looking forward to the simple round ‘roti canai’ every time we get back to Alor Setar. Sometimes I need to go as early as 8.00 am just to order take away breakfast nearly around 10-20 pieces of it. And normally it took nearly 30-45minutes just to get what the order & it was worst during weekend or school holidays.

The ‘roti’ was quite tender in the middle & crispy at the outer side of it. And it taste even better with a combination of curry + ‘kicap’ dipping. If you can see in the picture there’s small presence of black color dipping in the middle of the curry. That’s what makes it taste so tremendously marvelous.

I must say, I just can resist the ‘roti’ & normally I’ll just fill my time ordering the take away meal with a treat for myself of having one in the restaurant complete with a glass of ‘teh tarik’. Well, one thing for sure if you dine in the restaurant the waiting time to get the set will only take less than 5minutes.

Name Restaurant: Restoran Mee Abu

Location: Jalan Sultanah, Alor Setar. (Opposite RM4.00 car wash)

Setback: Waiting time for takeaway.

Where is it? Facing the Jalan Sultanah Road right side the Sultanah Bahiyah School.

Food In Taiwan : Taichung Food (Halal)

December 2009 i was assigned to conduct a survey in Taichung Taiwan. Well, the place is situated about 175km from Taipei but its only 45minutes ride using the High Speed Train.

Getting to this place was totally challenging especially when dealing with food. Well, i was quite lucky to have eaten at KLIA airport & also some heavy lunch in the 4 hours flight.

I arrived at Holiday Inn Express with empty stomach & very hungry. To make it worst there is no halal place nearby, no fast food nearby (walking distance) & the city was totally alien to me. So i open my laptop & browse for Halal Food. Lucky me that i found several places serving halal food.

That day, with the help of the Internet i managed to get a Halal Restaurant which is about 10minutes drive by taxi. Its a simple small restaurant called Little India or Kohinoor. Its the same restaurant. Its only just 8 tables all together. The beriani rice portion was quite big for 1 person to eat. But surprisingly i manage to finish it. Hungry i guess.

The owner was quite friendly talk little bit story about Taiwan & how it is different from China. I really acknowledge his hospitality on serving customers. :)

Restaurant Name :- Little India
Place :- 60, BoGuan 3rd St., Taichung TEL : (04) 2326-1425
Price :- Total about RM 40-50 for a Lamb Beriani & Tea.
Great Thing :- Owner have time to chit-chat
Setback :- Quite hard to find the place.

The next day, i tried another restaurant nearby this Little India which is called BollyWood. This restaurant is halal however it also sell Liquor & beer. There's a lot westerners enjoying their meals there & its a good place for business meeting & friends gathering from what i see. The decor finishing inside the premise is quite interesting. The decoration really nice which resembles the name of the restaurant.
I ordered, lamb beriani & mango lasi. What can i say, two days in the row eating beriani. By not having proper lunch that day resulting a quite full meal. But the mango lasi was great.

Restaurant Name :- BollyWood
Place :- Nearby Little India (walking distance)
Price :- RM 50-70 Lamb Beriani, Lasi
Great Thing :- Interesting Decoration
Setback :- A lot of customer.
~~~
Tips : How can i managed to get to this place despite eventhough i do not speak Mandarin. The tip is simple, just call the restaurant & ask the taxi driver to talk to them. You'll be there in no time. :).
Various Experience Having Food to Tell
This is what 1st Class MAS passenger eat. Honestly it was not so different enough from the normal class, just that the space is bigger. I'm one of the lucky ones being upgraded to 1st Class probably due to the seat for normal class was sold like hot cake.
A pleasant meal Lambchop at Residence Paka Terengganu. This is quite a memorable experience not due to the taste but because it is a farewell dinner for me.
Burger king China Brand. :). Well I've enjoyed this meal especially because there's nothing else i can eat. FYI, this is a fish burger & I'm having this in at Shanghai Airport. So disappointed when no chili available. Yup. They dint have chili. Only ketchup.
Very simple snack after my tiring day catching the crab in Langkawi. At that time i just catches the crab by 'pukat' & just boiled the crab as it is. Well, quite fresh, sweet taste with no artificial flavour. YOU SHOULD Try.
Who knows in a small island of Labuan there's a Heaven for crab lovers. Located about 15minutes drive from the main city center, the place is a great place to go. The place offers a splendid local crab dining experience. Simple tourist may not even have the chance to find the place by accident.
